P.E Funding

What is Sport Premium funding?

The Sport Premium funding is money that is ring-fenced and therefore can only be spent on provision of PE and sport in schools.

The government is provides additional funding to enhance the schools provision of P.E.

How do we use Sports Premium funding?

At Brookside, PE and Sport hopes to inspire all children to become physically confident and promote health and fitness. We aim to do this through;

  • High quality teaching and learning

  • Promoting physical activity through cross curricular lessons

  • Promoting teamwork through competitive sports and 'friendly' games

  • Promote the emotional well-being of every child

  • Providing opportunities  for children to try out new activities

  • A cross curricular approach including physical elements

  • Developing young leaders through Sports Ambassadors

We are spending the funding on using experienced and well qualified gym and swimming teachers to deliver inspirational lessons which have brought increased enthusiasm and skill to our children. Observing excellent practice over a number of weeks is also allowing our teachers to develop and extend their knowledge of specific teaching skills.

We have also been able to extend the games resources shop available to our playground leaders that assist to the other children during playtime and lunchtimes.

There are also lots of other sports clubs available run by the teachers within school that are not funded through the Sports Premium, many of which involve competitions with other schools within our Oadby and Wigston School Sports Association.

Sports clubs are organised at the beginning of each half term and announced as soon as arrangements have been made.

We are a healthy school who actively encourages all children to take part in physical activity and promotes a healthy lifestyle. PE co-ordinator has introduced Brookside Boost which incorporates at least 15mins physical activity in lessons. Sports Squad monitor this and have an active role in supporting children and staff with all aspects of PE and healthy lifestyles. The most active class are rewarded with a bespoke session with the Sports Apprentice.
